How advancement works
Per UIL, a varsity band must earn a Division 1 at its region contest to advance to Area (1A advances directly from region to State). In 5A and 6A each Area certifies its top two bands to State (one per five qualifiers when 15 or more bands qualify); in 2A, 3A and 4A each Area certifies its top three (one per five when 20 or more qualify), plus any band meeting UIL’s judges’ ranking rule. Slot counts are projections: each Area’s field is estimated from its 2025 qualifiers adjusted for the 2026–28 realignment and any 2026 entries already posted, then the UIL rule is applied. Area assignments come from UIL’s official Area marching contest entry records (see Areas for status by Area). Only schools with verified 2026 contest results are listed; Areas with few such schools show fewer projected qualifiers than available slots. 1A is not projected.
